The number of traffic tickets issued in the United States in 2021 has risen from 8,942,865 in 2020 to 10,834,946 in 2021.
The Metropolitan Transportation Agency (MATA), the nation’s largest transit agency, has installed more than 6,000 traffic cameras in major U.S. cities in the last decade, more than twice as many as it did in the same period last year.
The new cameras are designed to help reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries and prevent serious property damage.
Last year, more people died in crashes than in all of 2020.
There have been 562 traffic fatalities nationwide in 2021, up from just three in 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Traffics are also being recorded at a higher rate in the South and Midwest, which have seen a surge in the use of cameras.
