The FAA has put out a statement stating that it is aware of the “several” flights that have occurred that the FAA’s air traffic controller said were caused by a flight simulators.
The FAA statement comes after a report in the Wall Street Journal reported that the airline industry was aware of several simulators that were operating on the flight path of an A320, but it is unclear what was causing the simulators to be operating.
The Journal said the FAA has been working with manufacturers to develop a policy that would limit flights from the simulator system to the aircraft’s original destination.
The flight simulator system can be controlled using a mobile app, and it has been used by the airline and others for years to help pilots plan flights.
The Air Force, which oversees the FAA, issued a statement to CNN saying that it had been in contact with the FAA and that the agency was working with the industry to develop “a comprehensive set of policies and procedures for the use of flight sims.”
The Air National Guard said on its Facebook page that it has “conducted research” on the matter, and that it was “reviewing the information and has determined that there are no safety or health concerns with the use and misuse of flight simulator technology.”
The AP reports that the military’s top military authority told the Journal that there is “no evidence of a safety risk” in using flight sim equipment on its flights.
It’s not clear whether the Air Force is using its military operations to help with simulators or whether it’s just looking into the matter.
The AP adds that the Air National Guardsman who has been charged with a violation is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it has not received any reports of simulator use on its flight paths. ____
